Today, there is a lot of attention given to the environment and the things we can all do to preserve our planet for future generations. This includes being “green” in the laundry room. It shouldn’t be surprising that many of the most common household cleaners contain chemicals that are known human carcinogens, can cause reproductive, growth and birth defects, and cause harmful irreversible pollution once they’re washed down the drain and back into the water supply.

CM Washer Service encourages you and your tenants to switch to cleaning products that are biodegradable, irritant-free, phosphate-free, petroleum-free, and otherwise environmentally safe.

Here are some other things you can do to keep your laundry clean and green at the same time:

Add one cup of Borax or Arm & Hammer washing soda to deodorize and enhance cleaning power.
Use an oxidizing, non-chlorine bleach.
Add one cup of plain white vinegar to the load to remove soap residue.
To whiten and disinfect, add one cup of 3% hydrogen peroxide solution.
During the “cool-down” phase of the drying cycle (not when the dryer is hot), sprinkle a few drops of organic essential oil in a washcloth and toss it in the dryer with the load to add a subtle “spa scent.”
Check your local store for environmentally-friendly soaps and supplies.
Do not overload the washer or dryer as it reduces efficiency and may require re-washing or re-drying, using even more water, more energy and more chemicals.
